Vaccine Etiquette: How To Ask Wedding Guests About Their COVID Vaccination Status

Wedding Covid Vaccine Etiquette Invitations Australia Blog

We’re in our early days of hearing our Government’s plans to move out of COVID lockdown and we’re already seeing that proof of vaccination may be required by your wedding guests. We fully expect these requirements may be the way forward in the wedding industry.

For regions that do not currently require guests to be vaccinated, it may be a requirement of your wedding venue or perhaps your personal preference!

But how can you ask your guests for their vaccination status??

We’ve done a bit of homework for you and provided some examples of appropriate messaging below. We hope this helps prevent any awkwardness with guests and can help you ensure your big day is as safe as it can be.

Here’s to big celebrations of love and weddings being back for good!

Example One

Dear family and friends,

We are so excited to announce that our wedding can go ahead on our planned date.

In order to meet Government Health Orders, it is now a requirement that all of our wedding guests must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We completely understand if you will need to change your RSVP in light of this news and we ask that you let us know by (revised RSVP date) if you can no longer attend.

Thank you for all your kindness and support while we navigated the challenges of planning a wedding during a pandemic.

We have never been more excited to celebrate with you!

With love,

Example Two

Dear family and friends,

For the health and safety of those we love most, we kindly ask that all of our wedding guests are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

We understand that vaccination is a personal decision and that this news may require some people to change their RSVP. If you need to change your RSVP, we ask that you let us know by (RSVP date).

Thank you for your love and understanding. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

With love,

Example Three

Dear family and friends,

We are so excited to announce that our wedding can go ahead on (wedding date) - so it’s time to PARTY!

We know that love is infectious... but unfortunately so is COVID. We politely request that all of our wedding guests be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If this request means that you have to change your RSVP, there’s no hard feelings! We respect your decision and look forward to celebrating with you in another special way in the near future.

Thank you for supporting our decision as we’ve tackled the wild times of planning a wedding during a global pandemic.

We’ve had to wait extra-long for our big day – so we will celebrate accordingly!

With love and excitement,

When To Send Wedding Invitations

Acacia and Grace Design Co Brand and Eucalyptus Wedding Invitation and Save The Date

When is the best time to send wedding invitations? When planning a wedding, it's important to carefully consider your timeline so you can give your guests all they need to know to make sure they can party with you and your brand new spouse on your wedding day!

Since most people haven't got married before, how are you supposed to know when to send save the dates, invitations and thank you cards?

Being in the wedding invitation biz, we've been able to map out the best timeline for sending your save the dates, invitations, thank you cards and more.

Happy sending! x

Save the Dates

If you're sending save the dates, it's common to send them out 6-12 months before your wedding. If you're having a longer engagement, closer to 12 months works well. If you're inviting friends and family who live overseas or interstate, you may want to give them as much notice as possible so they can plan any annual leave, flights and accomodation. To make things simpler, you may want to consider sending a digital save the date!

All Acacia + Grace save the dates can be sent digitally - just be sure to export your design as a jpeg file. If you would like dimensions altered to better suit mobile phones, send me a message.

Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations should be sent out 2-3 months before you wedding. Any later will mean some people may have made other commitments on that day and you may struggle to get RSVPs back in time so you can confirm numbers for your venue and catering vendors.

What if I haven't sent Save the Dates?

If you haven't sent a save the date before your wedding invitations, you may want to consider sending your invitations up to 4 months before your wedding to make sure your guests have plenty of warning and enough time to plan.

What if I'm planning a destination wedding?

If you've got the guts to plan an international destination wedding in a pandemic - I'm so impressed! But when the world is pack to *normal* and destination weddings are back in the realm of certainty, you may want to plan to send your save the dates at least 12 months in advance and your invitations 4 months before your wedding.

Thank You Cards

Aim to send a thank you card to your guests within 2 months of the wedding. Be specific in your message about how much you appreciated them celebrating with you, their help on or before the day and any gift you received.
